Celebrate Your Life!

That it will never come again is what makes life so sweet.
— Emily Dickinson

We are all mortal. At some point unknown to us the story of our beautifully unique, colourful lives will draw to a close. But rather than just being fearful of that reality, or ignoring it completely, we can use it to enrich our lives while we are still here. Because the real key to happiness – the real meaning of life – is appreciating the fact that our precious time is limited.

If we could find the courage to acknowledge our mortality, to talk about it, perhaps even embrace the idea of it, we could all lead more fulfilled, contented lives. We’d be grateful to be here. We’d appreciate our unique, individual value – the life we’ve lived, the special place we hold in the lives of others, and the difference we make in the world. We’d play a part in how we are remembered and consider our legacy. And we’d all be better prepared to face what’s to come, express our wishes and achieve happier endings.

I know this to be true. My career as a Funeral Celebrant and Grief Support Worker brought me face to face with mortality on a daily basis. And not only did it change me – and my life – in the most positive ways, it also gave me the courage to face loss within my own family, as well as the tools I need to create meaningful life celebrations for the people I love.

So let me share what I’ve learnt from death to help you celebrate life – giving you a new, positive perspective on the person you are, the life you’ve lived, and how you’ll be remembered.
