“That it will never come again is what makes life so sweet.”

Emily Dickinson

We are all mortal…

At some point unknown to us the story of our beautifully unique, colourful lives will draw to a close. But rather than just being fearful of that reality, or ignoring it completely, we can use it to enrich our lives while we are still here. Because the real key to happiness - the real meaning of life - is appreciating the fact that our precious time is limited. If we could find the courage to acknowledge our mortality, to talk about it, perhaps even embrace the idea of it, we could all lead more fulfilled, contented lives, be better prepared to face what’s to come, and achieve happier endings.

I know this to be true. My career as a Funeral Celebrant and Grief Support Worker brought me face to face with mortality on a daily basis. And not only did it change my life in the most positive ways, it also gave me the courage to face loss within my own family, as well as the tools I need to create meaningful farewells for the people I love.

So let me share what I’ve learnt from death to help you make the most of life.
