Making Memories

making memories together

Where Collaborative Workshop meets Creative Get-Together!

I’ve always enjoyed and appreciated arts, crafts and creativity – both at work and in my own life. And my time as a Funeral Celebrant certainly revealed all sorts of ways we can be creative when it comes to sharing life stories, displaying memories, and celebrating loved ones. Because while it’s lovely to write your memories in a notebook, store your photographs in albums and boxes, or request a simple ‘order of service’ sheet, there is joy and comfort to be found in physically making something – either for yourself or for someone you love – and having those creations on view. Whether it’s artistic ways to share your life story, display sentimental items you’ve collected – or treasured keepsakes from the life of someone you love – or making a truly personal, memorable mark on that special someone’s final farewell. I’ve had the privilege of seeing so many beautiful, personalised creations at funeral ceremonies, from knitted flowers, embroidered blankets and hand-painted coffins, to home-made photo displays and illustrated orders of service.

As a lover of embroidery, I’m hand stitching some small pictures relating to me and my life – the current project features some of my old cloth swimming badges from the 1970’s! I’m also putting together a book of all the favourite recipes my Dad loved to cook, alongside photographs of him and the family involving food, parties and get-togethers. I’m really enjoying the process of making, as well as knowing I have something creative and meaningful to share with others, and leave behind after I’m gone.

Workshops

I’m not a craft expert or tutor… but I do have ideas for creative projects relating to life stories, keepsakes and personalised ceremonies. As well as stories, experiences and creative inspirations, which I’ve had during my time as a Funeral Celebrant (and Magazine Editor). So if you’re someone who enjoys making things, whatever level of experience – or you’re a ‘professional’ maker/creator who’d like to be involved – then please get in touch. I’m keen to provide the time and space where we can all get together, share creative ideas, work on individual projects reflecting who we are, or celebrating the lives of people we love, swop stories and shoot the breeze about life and the joys of creativity!

If you’re interested then please contact me via the link below, and if there are enough responses I’ll organise a date/venue to get us started. Please give a brief description of any crafts you currently enjoy or have experience in, and if you have a preference for particular days of the week/times of day.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
