Hello, I’m Nicola Dela-Croix...

I’ve always been fascinated by life stories. As a youngster they ignited my passion for books and history, they weaved through my former career in journalism, and they have inspired my work as a Celebrant.

We all have a unique story – we don’t have to be on TV or grace the cover of a magazine to show how extraordinary we are in our own special way. We all have value. We all mean something. We touch the lives of others, contribute to the world, and, when we’re gone, our loss is felt.

I became a Funeral Celebrant because I truly believe a unique life deserves a unique send off. We are all wonderfully different – why have the same funeral? I wanted my tailor-made ceremonies to be an accurate, meaningful reflection of an individual life lived – a reflection that would be recognisable to their loved ones. And, during the last 13 years, I’ve gained a first-rate reputation with local families for doing just that…

You managed to capture the spirit of our wonderful Mum as though you actually knew her. Your ceremony was so uplifting we all left on a high – reminiscing about Mum’s life and the wonderful times we shared. What a gift you have…

More than 1,500 ceremonies later, my work has encompassed all ages and circumstances – I’ve helped husbands say farewell to their wives, supported young mothers as they lay to rest their sons, and helped daughters share memories of their fathers. I’ve met families struggling to make sense of illness, accidents and suicide; sat with terminally ill patients, listened to their life stories and helped them create their own farewell. I’ve also been a Bereavement Support Worker for the UK’s largest bereavement charity – Cruse – and I’ve had experience of working with a wide range of funeral directors, crematorium staff and hospice workers.

You might be thinking – “isn’t that a bit depressing?” But it’s not. It’s the most fulfilling, uplifting, life-affirming work I’ve ever done.  Yes, being a celebrant has its emotional moments, but it’s not depressing. And that’s because each ceremony I do is a celebration of life – individual, joyful and unique in its own way, just like the person being remembered.

Thank you for making Maddy’s day the celebration our daughter deserved. It was a day of joy as well as sadness, and your words captured the essence of the uniquely special person she was. You gave a beautifully moving tribute to our lovely girl – you got Maddy’s character to a tee. Thank you for putting so much into getting this right. It really was very ‘Maddy’.

And these celebrations of life – combined with daily reminders of our mortality – have given me a unique perspective on life and death. Not only do I understand what makes a meaningful farewell, I also appreciate what makes a meaningful life and how important it is to value the precious time we have. That perspective has been captured in my Manifesto For Life: 10 ways to achieve happiness, contentment and meaning for ourselves and others.

My belief that we are all uniquely valuable has also led to the creation of two courses‘Celebrate You’ – a uniquely optimistic, life-enhancing process, designed to help people appreciate their worth, to see their value and make the most of their lives while they are still here. While ‘Remember Me’ is an in-depth, positive guide to creating our own truly personal life celebration ceremonies.

Engaging with our mortality is one of the most positive things we can do – it really is! And that message is clear in all aspects of my work – from ceremonies and courses, to talks and representations in the media. So whether you need my services as a Funeral Celebrant, want to plan a life celebration for the future, or simply want a positive reminder that you are mortal, valuable and your life has meaning… I’m here to help.

So thanks for visiting my website. And if I’ve struck a chord with you then do get in touch  – I’d love to hear from you…
